First day of school!

Yesterday was the first day of classes for Drexel. I have offically started the MLIS program! I am taking two classes this quarter. INFO510 and INFO520. The 510 is Information Resources and Services 1, seems to be about searching, data mining and how to provide information in any form to patrons. The 520 is the Professional and Social Aspects of Information Services, seems to be about copyright, being a librarian and for some odd reason grant writing.
I am taking the entire program online just like I did my bachelors last year. The course load seems managable and the other students seem ok. Yesterday I sat down at the computer and was like what the hell am I doing here? That remains to be seen. Gotta roll Law and Order is one.

Girly Purses

After getting inspired by cables and Mes Project's cable purse I decided to make purses for all the girls for christmas. I wanted to make a small purple purse for the nieces and larger purses for myse lf, my sister, and my sister in law. Last week I finished one of the purple purses and am working on the second. I decided to write the pattern out myself because I need to have everything spelled out for me. I will post the pattern when the purses are finished.
The first purse is a two cable pattern with a center band. The second is three cables and two end bands. This makes the purse slightly bigger for Ameila who is going to be 9 in January. Here is the double cable pattern. Here is the triple cables on the needles only seven more twists to go. The second picture is both of them together and the final one well that is J.R. so excited to try on the purse before the lining.

Marianne Scarf

Here is the pattern for my Marianne Scarf that I made for my dear mother. The pattern is actually a Gansey pattern combo the outer strips are called the Moss Ladder and the inner pattern is the called an Inverness Diamond. I used Red Heart soft yarn because it is soft duh!

I made the scarf for mom because she spends so much time making big Aran afghans for people and no one ever makes her anything! The fringe is the same fringe knot she uses on her blankies.

I tried the pattern and it is workable if anyone has any problems please email me and I will try to help. Ganseys are wonderful for new knitters, it only uses knit and purl stitches and the changes are just enough to keep it interesting.

Good Luck!

Thinking about Knitting

This summer my sister and I took the kids to the zoo. It was my niece Jasmine's first time at the zoo and she was so excited. We went to the petting zoo to see the sheep. She likes to help me knit on Saturdays when I mooch free laundry time from my mom. I told her that sheep make wool which turns into the yarn we use to knit stuff.

We were at the zoo feeding the sheep some of that stuff they put in the bubblegum machine and she looks right into the sheep's face and says with a sinister look on her face, "We are going to knit you up!"

My sister said, did she just threaten that sheep? I said yes she threatened to handicraft his ass.

Here is a photo from the zoo, unfortunately not of the above mentioned sheep.

El Mariachi Purse

This is my Crochetville purse swap entry. It is my first time doing a purse and with mom’s help I free formed the pattern. I went with a red, black and white color scheme because that is what my partner wanted. I thought and thought of what those colors reminded me of and I came up with an Asian or a mariachi theme. I wanted to make flowers so I went with the mariachi theme. I was thinking about the time we all went out for Bean’s birthday (my sister) to El Mariachi for dinner and we convinced the mariachi to serenade her for her birthday. Any way he was wearing these great pants with silver buttons up the leg and embroidered red and white flowers.
I used Red Heart cheap but sturdy also I wanted to single crochet and line the purse so I wanted yarn with a hefty skein volume. I used two full skeins and leftover and my trusty golden J hook. (How classy!) The entire purse is single crochets I made a strip for the sides and bottom and built the front and back on. I made a strip for the strap and slipped stitch the edges to give them a finished look. I crocheted the flowers from a free pattern on Lion’s website and did the embroidery (don’t look too closely) before slip stitching the lining in. Enjoy!
From start to finish!

Having some trouble adding all the images so I decided to split the post. Two is alway better than one! This is all the yarn I have left over so I cut it close.
