September Scarves Day 3

Happy Birthday to me! Today was a good day. I got a crazy birthday card, dark pink roses and Season 2 of Dexter! It was Yoga day and we went out to dinner. But enough about me lets talk about purple fluffy yarn and sister scarves. This yarn is fuzzy enough in the ball but when you knit up and wait and hour it blooms. Also if you have any static cling it leans over to the static.

This scarf is a super fluffy, super soft and your chemical heritage at work. I got this super deluxe yarn at the Dollar store! I acutally like it. My sister is super girly, super feminine with a fondness for purple. The scarf is done in my favorite one line pattern Garter Lace!

Day 3

Mystery Purple Yarn Scarf

Mystery Yarn Before:

I got this neato yarn for my birthday. After puzzling over how to unravel this skein I finally put my sister to the task of unraveling it. We thought the yarn was many strands loosely plyed. We were suprised to find it was one long thread with the yarns being tied onto each other at random intervals. It had thin mohair, novelty yarns, threads and a nifty thick and thin bobble yarn. I saved that nugget for a wristband it was so nice.

So first I tried to knit it as is. It had a multiple color eyelash band right in the middle of two thin sections which looked too novelty for me. I decided to cut out the novelty and ribbon sections and use them for decoration and the fringe. I knit the thinner yarns into a garter stitch lace and wove the ribbon into the holes. I used the novelty yarn for the fringe. Overall it was fun to figure out and decide how to best showcase the yarn. It turned out to be a fun fashion scarf.

Leaf Lace Scarf

I was off on Friday so I finally had time to block my Leaf Lace Scarf. I love this scarf. The yarn is a blue green color with nice flects. It is classy people yarn for sure. The pattern is from Ravelry by Janet D. Russell. You can find the scarf on her blog go get it.

I ended up using three balls of the Rowan Scottish Tweed that I bought at Rosie's. I got to a point where I felt it was long enough. Blocking was fun. It was my first time blocking lace. (I didn't block my feather and fan scarf) Enjoy the photos.

Oh what a hunk J.R. is. He is so confident in his masculinity he will rock a tweedy lace scarf.

No matter the mess you are your mine

Oh boy what a weekend. This weekend I managed to set fire to my mother’s house. Actually we had a small dryer fire. The lint trap and the vent tube were clogged up with lint and it caught fire. I was putting clothes in the washer and whoosh it went up in flames. Fire shot out of the back of the dryer and up the wall burning all the lint that had gathered there. I started screaming and my dad came running. By the time I got the fire extinguisher from under the sink the fire had put itself out. According to my dad dryer lint is mostly wool and cotton and it burns then extinguishes itself. I don’t know about that but I freaked myself out something fierce. I was so skittish after the fire I went to the laundry mat with J to dry the clothes. Being four she thinks the laundry mat is great fun. I was so scared and nervous thinking about how bad a fire could be we were lucky.

Now I have to live with the relentless teasing of my sister for almost burning down my mom’s house. When I left on Saturday she yelled from the porch “Thanks for not burning down my house.”

School starts today and the classes look really good this quarter and I will be graduating so that is cool. The title of this post comes from the New Pornographers new album. I can’t tell you how much I love this album.

Knitting stuff: Working hard on my sleeves for the Ram’s Horn Jacket. I am knitting both sleeves at once which is working out slowly but progressing. I have decided that three balls is enough for the Leaf Lace Scarf. I am getting sick of it. Pictures later this week!
